You’ll pay the relevant annual fee for the 2026–27 year, and we’ll include the remaining months of the 2025–26 year (ending 31 May 2026) at no extra cost.

In short, you’ll receive additional months of membership simply by joining during this window.

For psychologists eligible for Member (MAPS), this represents around $200 in complimentary membership.

Students and provisional psychologists also benefit, making this one of the most affordable times to join.

To join the APS

The APS offers several membership grades. Each grade has specific requirements, which are generally based on an applicant’s level of tertiary education in psychology. Applicants must be qualified in, or be studying, psychology programs accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

Before you start please ensure that you have the following:

  • A Visa, Mastercard or American Express card to pay using our secure payment process
  • Details of your qualifications (including completion dates)
  • A 'Proof of current enrolment' document to upload if applying as a Student Subscriber

Please note:

  • The APS now accepts high-quality scans of your academic transcript/s; email your academic transcripts to our Membership team following the completion of your application. 
  • The APS membership year is arranged in quarters.
  • The online application should take about 10 minutes to complete.

Member

Postgraduate pathway

  • Have completed both an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four-year sequence of study in psychology, and
  • either an APAC-accredited fifth and sixth year course in psychology, or a postgraduate research degree in psychology (minimum 2 years full-time).

Registration pathway (Work)

  • Hold current general registration as a psychologist in Australia, and
  • Have held general registration as a psychologist in Australia for at least five years, and
  • Have worked as a registered psychologist for the full-time equivalent of at least five years.

Registration pathway (National Psychology Exam)

  • Have completed a four-year sequence of study in psychology accredited by APAC, and
  • Have passed the National Psychology Examination, and
  • Hold current general registration as a psychologist in Australia

Associate Member

You can join as an Associate Member if you:

  • Have completed a four-year APAC-accredited sequence in psychology (or comparable sequence in psychology, as assessed by the APS); or
  • Hold current provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (no academic transcripts required to join this way)

Affiliate

The grade of Affiliate requires completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited three-year sequence of study in psychology.

Student Subcriber

You are eligible to become a Student Subscriber if you are currently enrolled in an APAC-accredited course or a postgraduate research degree in psychology, such as a PhD.
